DDR3 RAM Memory
RAM is one of the most important components of any computer. The RAM bone must be compatible with the motherboard of the device. With a certain number of motherboard slots, you can easily increase the performance of your computer by adding or replacing a RAM bone. DDR3 is the successor to DDR2 technology - the DDR3 standard supports RAM at a relatively lower power consumption than DDR2, so you can talk about relative savings. DDR3 RAM dice operate at around 1.5 - 1.35 volts.
DDR3 is a standard that assumes the construction of RAM dice in a specific type - it is slightly lower than that of DDR4 and thus contains exactly 240 pins. It is worth knowing that the choice of RAM dice in a specific standard is verified by the particular computer motherboard - if its design provides for the use of DDR3 RAM, no other standard will be compatible.
DDR3 memories offer a sizable capacity and significant speed, so they offer many advantages over DDR or DDR2. However, the disadvantages of DDR 3 are repeatedly mentioned, including the high CL ratio compared to the previous standard. It is true, however, that due to the increased clock frequency, the CL parameter itself is sometimes misleading, because in relation to the actual capabilities of DDR3 dice, the latency compares to that of DDR2.
DDR3 ECC - what is it?
DDR3 ECC RAM is equipped with an Error Correction Code ECC module. It keeps the system stable, but affects the speed of the RAM dice. ECC dice are therefore mainly recommended for server applications, where stable, continuous operation and not necessarily fast clocking of the RAM module is important.
ECC (Error Correction Code), is nothing more than an error correction system within the data bits. It characterises RAM dice with an extended data bus. As a result, so-called control bits, i.e. redundant bits, are sent along with the data packets to enable correction by single-error-correcting or double-error-correcting. The operation of DDR3 ECC RAM influences the stable operation of systems wherever continuous, reliable computer operation is required, i.e. mainly in the case of workstations and servers.
However, if you are looking for a RAM suitable for use in a PC or laptop, it is worth choosing one without the ECC module. Unfortunately, the bit error correction system can slow down the performance of RAM dice, so it won't work best for computers used for work. Here, stability is not as important as fast system response, so it is worth forgoing RAM ECC in favour of performance. The situation is different for servers, where continuous, stable operation is paramount, and any error can affect the operation of a server that supports many personal units, thus bringing work to a halt on a large scale.
What kind of DDR3 memory do we offer?
Our range includes DDR3 RAM dice from well-known manufacturers such as HP, Kingston, HPE, Micron and Hynix. You will also find popular dice from Samsung and Goodram. It is worth knowing how to choose the right RAM bone for your needs in order to influence the performance of your entire computer. What to check when choosing new DDR3 RAM?
First and foremost, pay attention to capacity - for server applications, it's worth choosing RAM with as much memory space as possible. In our range, you will find those that provide between 2GB and 8 GB of total capacity. In addition to this, the clock frequency also matters. As a rule of thumb, the higher, the faster the system runs, but in the case of servers, it does not matter so much. If you are faced with the choice between a DDR3 ECC bone with a larger capacity and lower clock frequency and one with smaller memory but higher clock frequency, choose the former option.
Also keep in mind the CL indicator - CAS latency - the lower its value, the lower the latency of the selected RAM. Choose the DDR3 ECC RAM dice to suit your needs and enjoy the best quality components with a guarantee of several years.
